After Jacob had wrestled with God, he
said he won’t let Him until He blesses him. When God asked him a question, He
doesn’t ask how much he wants, or about the blessings. Jacob has been blessed
before and that’s what he is expecting because all his life he has learned to
depend on blessings. But God says “What is Your name?” God says I know you have
a lot going on, you give your tithe to the church, you come early to church,
you clean the church, you sing on the worship, you are playing the band; but
what is your name. Your name is what it is important at this moment.
People defines us by what we have and
possess, they define us by our situations, they will call you millionaire if
you are rich. But God is not asking what people are saying who you are but what
is your name? He changed Jacob’ name which means deceiver to Israel. This is
where Israel was born, out of a man who was deceiver. When your name has
changed you don’t need to go everywhere asking everyone what they think about
you. We have been giving a new name; Jesus Christ. The name of the lord is our
strong tower.
After Jacob’s name was changed, he was
able to go back home freely, he was received because he is no longer the same
man. Esau no longer sees a deceiver, manipulator and a thief but a father,
brother and a husband. Because the Lord has changed him.
When Jesus Christ was on the cross
bearing our sins, he was touching us. He touched our sicknesses, our sins, our
poverty. After he had surrendered His last breath to the father, A change took
place. The veil was torn from top to bottom, He changed us, changed everything.
Now it was open for everyone to go into the holy of hollies without waiting for
a year to send a priest because this is a change. A change doesn’t require a
once in a year but is an everyday thing. Jesus opened the doors, changed the
systems, the laws, the atmosphere.
He changed how we use to things
religiously to spiritually, He changed how we pray, teaching us to Him more, He
has changed our worship, teaching us to worship in truth and in spirit. Changed
how we fellowship, to seek first His kingdom in a fellowship. He didn’t just
touch our issues and situations but He changed them, made us better men. He
restored everything that was lost by changing us. The pharisees will touch saints
by words of motivation, laws and atonement of sins.
Jesus Christ changed our behavior,
attitude, character, our perspectives and how we do things. He made in Him one
new man. One changed man! He redeemed us, restored us, changed us. People will
touch you and leave you but Jesus will never leave you unchanged.
He Touched and Changed US!
When you seek God to touch you and
used to been touched when you praise and worship him. You will only worship Him
by feeling the touch first, used to being touched by people’s approval. But
when you are changed by God, even when your needs are not met you still worship
him because you are a changed man.
When Jesus touched Saul who is Paul,
he made him blind. Paul had to find a helping hand to get him to his destinations
because he couldn’t see anymore. The same man who persecuted the church of
Christ; Jesus touched and changed Him. Because He doesn’t look at what you have
done but what you can do. He changed him, gave him a new name, a new mandate, a
new mission, a new heart, a new character, a new attitude. When He Has touched
you, people who used to discourage you will no longer make an impact in your
life because no matter what they say it can’t change you because you were
changed by God.
